Can a homeless yet optimistic teenage girl learn to accept a helping hand?

All Together Now is a drama film that takes place in Portland, Oregon. It centers around a teenage girl named Amber Appleton who has a secret. She is homeless and sleeping inside a school bus, something she is unable to tell her peers at her high school. The reason Amber has become homeless is because her mother, Becky, has left her abusive boyfriend Oliver, and her father is deceased. (This movie talks about sensitive subjects that may be inappropriate for younger audiences.)

The movie showcases how homelessness has become a serious problem in the U.S. In addition, the topics of alcoholism, domestic violence, high school drop outs, and tragic car accidents are risky factors that many teenagers face in our society today. All Together Now is a tragic story because of how honest it is discussing such serious topics.

Throughout the film, Amber struggles with being optimistic in high school due to her homelessness. Despite doing activities such as working at the old age home and the school variety show, Amber is struggling financially. Many teenagers need to be aware of how common these issues are for people their age. By being aware of these societal problems, teens learn they can make a difference in someone's life.

(Spoilers for All Together Now). Amber's life takes a downward spiral when her mother and boyfriend are killed in a fatal car accident, leaving her an orphan. Her pet dog Bobby, her only remaining family member, becomes sick and has to be taken to the vet. He needs an expensive surgery, so Amber drops out to work full time to afford it. Ty, Amber's friend from high school, discovers she has dropped out of high school and refuses to speak with her because of this risky decision.

When all hope seems lost, Amber's friends dedicate the school variety show's proceeds to her dog's surgery, and Joan, a resident of the old age home, surprises Amber with a big donation. Viewers learn that kind friends will be there to lend you a helping hand when things go wrong.

Auliʻi Cravalho, the actress playing the female lead role, is of Native Hawaiian descent. Cravalho brings great representation for Native Hawaiian women. The main male character and romantic interest is played by Rhenzy Feliz, who is of Dominican descent. One of the women who helps Amber through her tough times is also of Dominican descent. This movie has strong positive representation for Dominican characters.

Overall, All Together Now shows viewers the importance of helping others in times of need.
