A vengeance-filled mother, enraged by the miscarriage of justice over her daughter's brutal murder, traps the ruthless gangster responsible and his gang of killers in an abandoned factory, intending to elicit a taped confession. But nothing goes according to plan, when the bait for the trap happens to be the gangster's younger brother and her dead daughter's lover.
In a film where a Black couple is framed to be the lead characters, they still managed to get shuffled off to the sidelines. The enthusiastic cast delivers well on goofy bits- but can only go so far before they begin to fall flat.
With the theme of unemployment, it presents a family fantasy anecdote rather the a comment on social problems.
Even without the messaging, Mercy does not hold up as a movie. It's sloppily done and the mystery doesn’t tie together at the end.
Audition should be on everyone's list of Greatest Horror Film. So I urge you to give it a watch. Maybe watch the last twenty minutes with your hands in front of your eyes.
