A few episodes in, I realized the most prominent theme of In The Long Run wasn't culture, race or even finding independence--but the idea of belonging.

When two siblings, AJ and Susan smith go fly-tipping in the countryside, Mother Nature fights back. AJ, an ignorant and rude solicitor convinces his little sister Susan to take him to dump one of his clients rubbish in the countryside to avoid a up-lift fee. The deeper into the woods he ventures, the more nature surrounds him. Once he's dumped the rubbish he is confronted by Màthair, the matriarch and protector of nature. In her anger at the mess he's left of her home she exacts revenge on AJ and subsequently Susan when she accidentally litters trying to save AJ.
