On December 26, 2004, Southeast Asia was hit by a huge tsunami and hundreds of thousands of people lost their lives. Here, two Swedes who were affected by the tsunami are depicted. Mikaela, among the youngest of 16 Swedish children who lost both of their parents, is now returning to her childhood home. Sussi, who lost both of her daughters, now runs an orphanage in Phuket with her partner.
The film is a simple love story reminiscent of stories like The Notebook released in 2004. Sylvie and Robert are rarely actually together in the film, however; time and circumstance keep them away from each other, and the audience waits with bated breath to see them find one another over and over.
Unlike other documentaries about Princess Diana, Perkins’ film, 'The Princess', is an entire documentary consisting of media coverage and public opinion, rather than a typical series of people interviewed with firsthand experience of the Princess. 'The Princess' beautifully depicts how we perceive Diana as a media figure rather than a real person, specifically creating her persona as a fairytale figure turned saint and icon.
The Invite is witty, dramatic, funny, and probably the best comedy released this year so far.
