In Camera is part memoir and part meditation on the director's art: Palit revisits characters from his older works, among them the blind Baul singer from Abak Jaye Here and protestors featured in Voices from Baliapal, about an agitation against a missile testing range in Orissa. Palit assesses the impact of these films on their lives and on himself. In keeping with Palit’s feelings about the limits of documentary filmmaking, there are many questions but no convenient answers.
The film is a simple love story reminiscent of stories like The Notebook released in 2004. Sylvie and Robert are rarely actually together in the film, however; time and circumstance keep them away from each other, and the audience waits with bated breath to see them find one another over and over.
Seeing that the film was essentially his first big, mainstream feature, and with garnering a leading role — portraying the revolutionary ball-player Jackie Robinson — Boseman, without question, delivered a performance that is still so incredibly moving, respectful, genuine, and true to the core of his obviously sincere, artistic heart; and with that, it is indeed so saddening to see him pass.
