The film explores how societal expectations, school situations (the titular "exam"), and social class differences affect the child's psyche. It sensitively portrays how the carefree interaction and trust between two children can be damaged by the competitive spirit and social status modeled by the adult world.
This film was filled with great plot points. Unfortunately, they all contradicted each other and clashed. Had the premise of Awake been more consistent and accurately portrayed the real world aspect, I think this could have been an extreme success.
