Not Much More than Magic in 'Maestro'

Coming back home after thirteen years, a 16 year old is forced to remember what little she knows of home when her mother decides to run away. In a grueling road trip with her estranged grandmother, in a place that she has long forgotten, she soon realizes that she isn't the only one looking for a mother.

With such a raw look at the 15th century, it seems that Disney was really trying to step outside of its element with this motion picture.

Overall, “Dark Fate” is a run-of-the-mill flick. Together, Reyes and Davis have excellent chemistry, but their characters’ story is nothing new, lacking surprise and deep emotion. During the middle points, the film drags considerably, and when the action hits, it feels consistently tight, eliminating the rhythm and fluidity of conflicts.
While prioritizing production value over substance, Flood depicts an emotionally taut family drama set during the farmland flooding of the Franco-Dutch war.
