Netflix’s ‘The Old Guard’ is an Entertaining Flick
"The Old Guard" doesn't break ground, but it sure does bust boredom and fictional heads as an entertaining action romp on Netflix.

This is an omnibus consisting of three stories, all of which deal with deviations of the human psyche. In the story "Waltz", we learn about the first sexual experiences of a man who attends a dancing school in Split. In the story "Ave Maria", a cruel crime destroys a pastoral idyll, and in the story "Seas", we meet a family, living on an isolated island, that goes through an existential crisis ending in murder.

Escape The Field is a serviceable horror thriller. The characters are easier to remember as horror character tropes. As I wrote this review, I only remembered the characters by their tropes: #FinalGirl, #Everyman, #Badass, #MeanB*/SexyGirl, #Realist/BlackLesbian, and #TheNerd.
Seeing that the film was essentially his first big, mainstream feature, and with garnering a leading role — portraying the revolutionary ball-player Jackie Robinson — Boseman, without question, delivered a performance that is still so incredibly moving, respectful, genuine, and true to the core of his obviously sincere, artistic heart; and with that, it is indeed so saddening to see him pass.
Intergenerational friendships and community can be so powerful, and this was a great example.
