I was able to sit down and talk with singer/songwriter Carson Lueders about his career in the music industry. We talked influences from country music to Pop, and his working relationship with Quavo from the The Migos.

Richard: How did you get started in music and what drew you to the craft?

Carson: Originally, I got started in music at a very early age. I picked up the guitar at the age of five years old and I looked on the tv and I saw one of my favorite country music artists. His name’s Keith Urban and I originally started in country music. So, I just fell in love with the guitar and some of his songs and I really looked up to him, as a young kid.

Richard: That answers the second question. Is there another artist you’ve been influenced by? Keith Urban.

Carson: Yeah but if you want another one, I’ve also been inspired by a lot of people in Pop. Another big one is Ed Sheeran. Ed Sheeran is great. Chris Brown, Shawn Mendes, people like that.

Richard: I know you’re working with Quavo, now, so tell us about that.

Carson: So my new single “Toxic” featuring Quavo is out now on all platforms. Working with Quavo was amazing. He’s a very kind individual and I am so blessed to be included in a record with Quavo and to be able to have him on a feature because that’s an artist that I looked up to for years and I admire his work. Working with him was great. He recorded it in Atlanta, sent over the verse and I heard it for the first time.

Richard: How did you get started with him in the first place? Who contacted who?

Carson: It’s actually kind of a funny story. My manager sat next to Quavo on the airplane and they started talking and one thing lead to another and after they landed, my manager FaceTimed me, put Quavo on the phone so I was able to facetime with him and I had met Quavo three or four years ago in Atlanta, so my manager showed him a picture of us together.

Richard: What was one of the biggest challenges you had to overcome in this industry?

Carson: Probably how much time it takes to get where you’re trying to go and I’ve been doing this for a while. I never gave up and kept on trying to work. Tried to get another song out, tried to learn a new cover, put a new Instagram post up and that all leads up and hard work never fails. Mainly, hard work leads to success.

Richard: What’s one thing you would change about the music industry?

Carson: Maybe some of the politics that go into the music industry. Who’s associated with who and I’m not saying that in a bad way, but the music industry is run off of a lot of relationships. I would probably change how you got in a relationship with important people because a lot of people are very talented and they might not have that same direct connect to some of the people in the music industry.

Richard: What makes you stand out in this industry?

Carson: I would say my diverse talent in instruments, playing guitar, drums, saxophone, I sing, I dance, I play sports. I feel like I do a lot.

Richard: What advice do you give to a struggling artist?

Carson: Advice that I give to a struggling artist is keep working hard and don’t take no for an answer. If you’re getting hate on something, rather than looking at that, let it drive you to make more because someone will like your music. Not everyone’s going to tell you no. Some people will tell you no for now, but you might make a song tomorrow that 50,000 people love. You never know.

Richard: One last question. What is your next project?

Carson: My next project is hopefully an album by the top of 2023. I’m very excited to get new music out. I feel like it’s a very important time in my career now, coming off the feature with Quavo.
