The investigation proves to be increasingly complicated as everyone affiliated with it either tries to hide the truth or plot against one another. Soon, Brandt and Wiesel are certain that all of them are two-faced. As a huge fan of Sean Baker’s Tangerine, The Florida Project, and Red Rocket, I’ve wanted to watch Anora since before it even was released. But life got in the way, my watchlist grew, and honestly, the fact that it was marketed as a romantic comedy put me off. Even with all the critical praise and the five Academy Awards it won last year, I just kept postponing it indefinitely.
By undermining the appeal and credibility of black characters, the show compromises the very idea of diversity and representation it sets to promote.
For anyone who is not a cis white woman, a justice-fueled murderous rampage is not framed as liberation. Instead, they contribute to harsh stereotypes that vilify minority women with dangerous consequences.
