The chronicle of a few bourgeois families spending their summer holidays in a small town on the Atlantic coast. Beach, games, bored children, couples who invite each other, who go out, who bear the brunt of temptations, weariness, the banality of everyday life, even on vacation.
This film was filled with great plot points. Unfortunately, they all contradicted each other and clashed. Had the premise of Awake been more consistent and accurately portrayed the real world aspect, I think this could have been an extreme success.
Its predictability shouldn’t distract from the enjoyment that the pure cinematic imagination behind the camera elicits. It is a movie of crises both moral and mortal, oozing with CGI, and thoroughly enjoyable.
The film didn’t have to be as long as it is. It just dragged on and on with scenes that had no substance. Every so often we get an action scene, and even those isn’t that fun.
Acutely funny and always well-intentioned, Last Week Tonight has a lot of heart for a satirical-news program.
I’m disappointed in The Woman in Cabin 10, but that’s at least in part because of my love of Ruth Ware’s novel.
