Unfortunately, People We Meet on Vacation didn’t hold up quite as well as I’d hoped.

A broke gambler plans with the manager of a gambling hall to steal money from the safe of a pharmaceutical company that another gambler works for. The gambler betrays his partner , and kills him and mutilates his face. After the doctor leaves his room, everyone thinks that he killed the gambler because of the hatred that existed between them.

Starring Maddie Ziegler, Lana Condor, Iris Apatow, Avantika, and Millicent Simmonds, Amazon Prime’s new thriller seemed like it would be a girl power movie about dancers with a horror action twist. Sort of a Suspiria for teens. But with shallow and unlikeable characters, a confusing plot, an overreliance on violence, and cringey dialogue, any fun the movie started out with was quickly lost. What was left was a faint echo of greater horror movies about dancers made before.
