Cemil is a feisty young man from Trabzon who played for Trabzonspor in the mid-1990s. He transferred to Beşiktaş during the same period and changed greatly in character after moving to Istanbul. During a Beşiktaş-Trabzonspor match, he scored three goals against his former team, Trabzonspor, and then did three somersaults, earning him the nickname "Somersaulting Cemil" and turning all his old friends and fellow Trabzon natives against him. He left his fiancée Zeynep and settled in Istanbul, never returning to his hometown for 20 years. Now in his 40s, Cemil is forced to return to Trabzon when he hears that his father has had a heart attack. However, he is too late—his father has already passed away. He wants to return to Istanbul immediately after the funeral, but he is forced to change his mind after hearing the words of his closest friend, Kemal.
Lucifer is a show with both comedy and drama, but most importantly, has charm. Well aware it’s following a silly premise, the show does so in a way that’s entertaining. Sure, sometimes it can be cheesy, but fun cheese.
The fun tricks used in the production design and lighting read extremely well on-screen but hardly fulfill their purpose of trying to inject glamour into a lack-luster story with nothing to say.
'The Wiz' has the propensity for paying homage to black culture with R&B music, graffiti and jazzy elements that make it incredibly entertaining.
The new biopic 'Elvis' highlights the beginning and end of the career of this rock and roll legend. The audience is taken on this journey knowing the tragic ending but not so much about what led him there. A large topic of discussion is the influences on Elvis that made him who he was as a singer, musician, and performer, which were blues, gospel, and country. Many of the songs that rose him to fame were songs by Black artists he heard growing up in primarily Black settings.
A lot of us are emotionally impacted by the current pandemic. So, while we’re all stuck here in our homes, it’s great to put on a movie to ease the stress. With that, I made up a small list of some of my favorite feel-good movies.
My review’s title is a nod to Shakespeare and is entirely deliberate. The original movie portrayed the high-end fashion world as a brutal arena of plotting, backstabbing, and betrayal, and most Shakespeare’s plays depend on these plot devices. The Devil Wears Prada 2 uses the same formula, and is, plot-wise, almost identical. Once again, we plunge into the cutthroat world of Runway, where to get and stay at the top, you must let go of your principles and moral sense. The only thing different is that due to the digital era, Runway is not a print magazine anymore, but one that is running online.
