What began as a childhood dream is now an epic 18-month adventure that spans the globe. More than a few have embarked on an 'around the world' adventure; some have even completed it, but no one has ever done so powered exclusively by the sun. Meet Louis Palmer and his home-made "Solartaxi". Full of surprises and apparently insurmountable obstacles, his journey begins in the summer of 2007. Solar energy is functional, efficient, and most importantly, reliable. A car with zero emission is not a dream. This film is proof. Along the way, Louis and his Solartaxi meet princes, movie stars, politicians and scientists, but most importantly, encounter ordinary people, showing them, mobility with the mere power of the sun is possible.
A lot of us are emotionally impacted by the current pandemic. So, while we’re all stuck here in our homes, it’s great to put on a movie to ease the stress. With that, I made up a small list of some of my favorite feel-good movies.
American Fiction is a genuinely entertaining film with a few lessons.
Dramatic Horror!!! Wait, what?? Did you say "dramatic horror"?? IS there such a thing?? I mean, TRULY. Well, if San Francisco-based, Pakistani-born independent filmmaker Dr. Hassan Zee and this film critic have anything to say about it, there IS such a beast as experienced through the director's newest feature film set to officially debut October 4th in the City by the Bay. Folks, indie film will always be a bastion of experimentation and originality, and this film for me fits that bill.
If you mix religious rituals with dark mythology, the result will be effective, and the story powerful in 90% of the cases. That is exactly what happens at the beginning of The Vigil.
Twisting what seems to be obvious setups and frameworks is what sets the story structure of Squid Game apart. I appreciate that this narrative is complex but not complicated; an easy enough plot to wrap your head around while still treating the audience like an equal participant in this social commentary
