A man with his face wrapped in gauze comes out of a trance: he's holding a gun, pointed at a pleading man; several dead bodies and a valise of $100 bills are at his feet. He takes the money and goes to a motel. His face and body have long surgical scars. Jump ahead a few months: still bandaged, he kidnaps a woman named Claire and has her call Owen, her boss at a bowling alley. He tells them a story they can't believe, so he proves it. He's Frank, Claire's boyfriend and Owen's best friend; they had gone to his funeral. Now he has scars, tattoos, and flashes of operations and killing. Can he get to the bottom of what's happened to him? What price memories?
Spiral could easily spawn new sequels and will most likely churn a decent profit. Is it a good Saw film? Absolutely. Could it have been revolutionary though? Also yes.
Dead Poets Society brilliantly combines defeat and optimism, rejection and love, craziness and daring, fear and freedom.
This remake of the Disney Channel Original Movie of the same name brings a strong representative cast.
The film didn’t have to be as long as it is. It just dragged on and on with scenes that had no substance. Every so often we get an action scene, and even those isn’t that fun.
Deborah (Jean Smart) and Ava (Hannah Einbinder) are a delight to watch evolve, sometimes devolve, then evolve again.
Steven Soderbergh’s Contagion is a fan-favorite, as are some of the more science fiction angled movies like 28 Days Later or World War Z. I recently watched the 1995 Wolfgang Peterson-directed movie, Outbreak for the first time, which is currently available on Netflix.
