After escaping Egypt following the 2011 revolution, an activist finds himself in Berlin, hoping to start a new life and find safety and freedom. However, he ends up living in a refugee camp located in an area where far-right groups frequently hold anti-refugee protests. Caught between the hostility of his new home and the nostalgia for his past life, he begins to question his life choices and what it means to walk down a queer path. By exploring his memories archives, he develops a new understanding of what it means to be in exile. He also forms new friendships with those around him and redefines the concept of "home" in Berlin.
It’s passionately protective of the women mentioned in the story or appearing on screen. Just like the article and the #MeToo movement, the film could help a trapped person find the courage to fight back.
One of THE most frustrating trends in the mainstream film industry over the last several decades has been the onset of comedy efforts that seem SO focused on being crude and/or gross-out in all ways possible. That, at least for me, makes them no longer funny.
Remember when there was this amazing comedy titled "National Lampoon's Vacation"? To this day, it is a true classic of the genre and certainly put a new spin on precisely what KINDS of insanity could occur when taking the fam on the road. Then, like with so many successful films, there was the sequel (which for me was even MORE of a classic than the original!). However, the third film emerged....and then a fourth. Suddenly, the luster was gone and disappointment set in.
While it is more than established that Halston’s life is far from a fairytale, the narrative suffers as a result of the decision to revolve more around sex and drugs than his artistry, it likely does a disservice to his cultural impact by pulling focus from his achievements.
