The victim is a famous actress, Lena Merwińska, who has injured her leg and stays in Zasielsk for a few days. Lena and the doctor fall in love. Lena passes Jan's research paper on to Professor Tomczyński, who paves the way for his great career. Jan moves to Warsaw, where he is to become the head of a children's clinic.
