"In the Heights" Review
Lin-Manuel Miranda's Tony-winning musical translates beautifully to the screen.

Qiu Sheng works in Beijing. He accidentally saves Tao Zi, a female university teacher, at work, and she loses her job. Out of gratitude, Tao Zi asks Qiu Sheng to be her babysitter. Although the two have different life backgrounds and disparity in social status, they gradually establish a kind of trust and a kind of friendship in the process.

Outer Banks (2020-) knows its audience: young adults in a country that can’t stop romanticizing good ole’ treasure hunts. Add a little of Riverdale’s (2017-) sex appeal, and no one can look away. Forty years after The Goonies (1985) America’s consciousness hasn’t strayed from the same tropes: treasure hunts, a vulnerable white male lead, and the whitewashing of a racially segregated setting.
One of THE most frustrating trends in the mainstream film industry over the last several decades has been the onset of comedy efforts that seem SO focused on being crude and/or gross-out in all ways possible. That, at least for me, makes them no longer funny.
