A editora da parte de livros do Los Angeles Chronicle, Rose Lloyd (Christine Lahti), crê que tem uma vida perfeita. Ela tem um bom emprego, está casada há 25 anos e seus filhos estão crescidos. Porém isto começa a desmoronar quando seu marido, Nathan Lloyd (Brian Kerwin), que também é editor no mesmo jornal, comunica que está deixando de viver com ela para morar com uma jovem mulher, por quem está apaixonado e com quem está tendo um caso há um ano. Acontece que esta bela jovem não é uma pessoa qualquer e sim a assistente dela, Mindy (Abby Brammell). Rose vai até seu chefe para exigir que Mindy seja mandada embora, mas descobre que é ela que será demitida e que Mindy ficará no seu lugar.
