It's the end of summer. When Alicia picks up Charlie after work with her new car, they get to taste their new freedom. But their evening turns to disappointment, forcing Charlie to confront her emotions about her best friend's imminent departure.
Ultra-violent storytelling has never been my thing, but the issues with Scarface go beyond that. The film perpetuates harmful stereotypes about Latinx immigrants and uses gore and misogyny for shock value that never serves any purpose. The whole venture is frustratingly empty, and left me desiring something more.
'Playing with Fire' was clearly a film made for a kid or tween-ish audience. Keeping that in mind, I thought 'Playing with Fire' was alright, though it did portray some harmful stereotypes.
The Sandman features a plethora of LGBTQ+ characters and is openly expressive about it!
