A few episodes in, I realized the most prominent theme of In The Long Run wasn't culture, race or even finding independence--but the idea of belonging.

During a Phoenix Grand Prix, Wu Luo, an oriental beast that had disappeared for 20 years, reappeared, bringing great disaster and panic to the city. Wu Luo was injured in the attack and hid in a cave to recuperate. Zhang Xiaozao, a young racing genius, was overconfident and led a team of four to risk a sneak attack on the injured Wu Luo, which instead triggered a more serious crisis. Faced with the blow, Zhang Xiaozao, with the help and encouragement of weapons expert Lai Daozhang, not only improved his combat effectiveness, but also regained his lost confidence. At the critical moment when Wu Luo was about to destroy Phoenix City, Zhang Xiaozao stepped forward, turned the tide, successfully saved the entire city, and eventually became a new generation of city hero.
