In a village scarred by the Mexican cartel battles, Mariah--an NGO worker haunted by her own broken marriage to the town's mayor Martin Flores--meets Colin, a young, reckless freelance journalist. Stand and Deliver is an inspirational classic from 1988 starring Edward James Olmos as Jaime Escalante, and his class of rag tag students in East Los Angeles. It’s the story of how a new teacher shows a motley group of students in the inner city with backgrounds as gang members, dishwashers, and mechanics — the power of self-determination. He teaches the teenagers to believe in themselves through algebra and calculus.
This film was filled with great plot points. Unfortunately, they all contradicted each other and clashed. Had the premise of Awake been more consistent and accurately portrayed the real world aspect, I think this could have been an extreme success.
An adventure that centers on freedom and captures viewers' hearts.
One of the great achievements of this film is its ability to challenge the mind and to force you to try to process information in a different way than you’re used to.
