The evolving formats of home video chronicle the life of a young girl, Mackenzie, from birth to womanhood as she experiences the highs and lows of life alongside her childhood best friend, Lucas. As Mackenzie's struggle with depression worsens over the years, she’s forced to find the will to fight alongside the people who love her most.
This film manages to be simultaneously topical and timeless. Without being preachy, it highlights society’s flawed relationship with tech; insights into the complex ideas of family struggle are expertly dispersed among a perfectly paced and balanced story.
Escape The Field is a serviceable horror thriller. The characters are easier to remember as horror character tropes. As I wrote this review, I only remembered the characters by their tropes: #FinalGirl, #Everyman, #Badass, #MeanB*/SexyGirl, #Realist/BlackLesbian, and #TheNerd.
