Fang Shiyu, former Ming loyalist Hong Xiguan, and down-on-his-luck scholar Hu Huiqian swear brotherhood under triad boss Cai Jiuyi to protect the weak in 19th-century Guangzhou. Their justice crusade angers local boss Lei Laohu. Lei’s rebellious daughter Lei Tingting falls for Fang after he defeats her in contest, uniting Lei and corrupt magistrate against the triad. Despite warnings, Fang races to save Cai from an ambush, fracturing brotherly bonds and walking into deadly traps. Only Lei Tingting’s sacrifice spares him. Betrayed by allies and lovers, Fang learns that the martial world is far darker than youthful dreams.
The tale of the Snyder Cut will undoubtedly go down as one of the most fascinating stories in modern film history. It is one of the rare times that movie fans were able to rally together and champion an issue so much so that it actually came to fruition.
While it is more than established that Halston’s life is far from a fairytale, the narrative suffers as a result of the decision to revolve more around sex and drugs than his artistry, it likely does a disservice to his cultural impact by pulling focus from his achievements.
Honey Don't! is a chaotic queer noir that's part detective story, part midnight movie madness. Margaret Qualley is fantastic as the wise-cracking private eye Honey, with Aubrey Plaza and Chris Evans adding their own dry humor to the mix. The mystery itself is pretty loose, but the film makes up for it with crackling sexual tension, weird side characters, and razor-sharp dialogue. It's messy and uneven, but in the best possible way.
“Reboot” is crass and sometimes incoherent, and has much room to improve, but with investments of time and care, could flower out of the seed of a vision.
Only time will tell what this new Black Panther and movie will show us with all of the old and new elements of the superhero craft integrated.
