Graça dreams of fire. When she wakes, she and her daughter, Duda, gather their few belongings and leave the apartment in the middle of the night. The building is occupied by homeless families. The fire breaks out on an uninhabited floor. Graça sets out with her daughter in search of a safe place to spend the night. The living and the dead follow in their footsteps.

From its visually stunning opening credits, which show women dancing through a forest to musical rhythms that sound almost primal, to its quiet, heartbreaking final frame, Mona Fastvold’s historical rendering of the Shaker religious movement is an experience that will stay with me for a long time.
It is as bad as your remember, and you are fortunate if you've never watched it. Keep it that way!
