Crazy Rich Asians. The title is crass, but the actual movie is both heartwarming and cosmopolitan. After all, it takes place in Singapore!
The first thing about this movie is to disregard the title. It’s terrible — Crazy Rich Asians is an awful name. It misrepresents the whole vibe of the story. The title conveys a superficial movie that is geared only towards Asian people. The movie couldn’t be further from the truth. I know the movie was based off the book with the same title, but I’m worried it’ll drive people away with such a shallow name! This is such a wholesome story for everyone, with themes that dabble amongst feeling incompetent, to remembering to believe in yourself, to the interesting male ego and all egos, to the Cinderella story. There was honestly just so much heart, culture, and significance that went into this story. It just radiated an unexpected amount of truth for just a little rom-com film.
