In the meantime, several episodes will cause him to become obsessed to the point of confusing reality with fantasy. A woman is left alone after the death of her husband and daughter. When her young nephew visits her, he is confronted by a disturbing phenomenon. His investigation culminates in a surprising result. A veteran taxi driver, traveling through the deserted city at night, finds his routine disrupted by the appearance of a beautiful woman surrounded by an elusive aura of mystery.

Overall, Matthias & Maxime doesn't reinvent this romantic concept. But it also doesn't need to. Dolan weaves a story of love, friendship, and life that is both realistic and bittersweet. The film is nuanced and sensual in a way we don't get to see often with LGBTQ characters. It's a film that we can celebrate.
