A place of pleasure and pain, creation and separation, Frida Kahlo's home, known as "La Maison Bleue", was the scene of one of the most singular adventures of the 20th century. In the 1930s, while Europe was being torn apart, Frida Kahlo welcomed painters, actresses, writers, photographers and revolutionaries: from Diego Rivera, the great Mexican painter and Frida's fickle husband, to Leon Trotsky in exile, via André Breton, who dreamed of Mexico as the land of "real surrealism".
This is not a slavery story, it is a freedom story. The viewers only see Harriet as a slave for the first few minutes of the film. To me, it felt like watching the origin story of a superhero…which is both good and bad.
The multifaceted musical represents America in the 1960s and the battle against bigotry as an ensemble cast portrays how to fight for the limelight.
This current year, as well as the past several, has seen a slowly building increase in something the horror genre has required for quite a while in this critic's opinion...originality. I've stated before that I am very hard to please when it comes to this vein of the film industry's offerings, always leaning more towards that which sends chills through my very being in lieu of buckets of blood and gore.
I was able to sit down and talk with singer/songwriter Carson Lueders about his career in the music industry. We talked influences from country music to Pop, and his working relationship with Quavo from the The Migos.
It’s passionately protective of the women mentioned in the story or appearing on screen. Just like the article and the #MeToo movement, the film could help a trapped person find the courage to fight back.
This short film was an overall creative success.
