Count Louis-Antoine de Bougainville (1729-1811) is best known to gardeners for having given his name to the bougainvillea, an exotic plant with delicate mauve flowers. Fewer know that, during the Age of Enlightenment, he was the first Frenchman to officially and scientifically sail around the world. In 1766, commissioned by Louis XV's ministers, the navigator left Brest aboard the frigate "La Boudeuse", joined en route by the flute "L'étoile". His task? Navigate the southern seas to explore new territories and gain a foothold in the southern hemisphere. Accompanied by scientists, including astronomer Pierre-Antoine Véron and botanist Philibert Commerson, Bougainville docked in Tahiti in April 1768, which he christened "New Kythera Island" and took possession of on behalf of France.

If you identify as part of the queer community, or if you love old school slasher flicks, you will love this movie.
The Magician's Elephant has a strong multicultural cast and a heartwarming story about bringing two long-lost siblings back together
It’s passionately protective of the women mentioned in the story or appearing on screen. Just like the article and the #MeToo movement, the film could help a trapped person find the courage to fight back.
Bigg County Restorations is a zany new pilot from comedians Joe Bell and Mikaela Watkins. In a spot-on parody of History Channel shows like American Restoration and Pawn Stars, Paul Bigg (John Jezior) works to restore kitschy decor for celebrities while his good-for-nothing adult children, Britney (Mikaela Watkins) and Junior (Joe Bell) go on wacky adventures while slacking off on the menial tasks they’ve been assigned. In the pilot, Britney and Mikaela’s day goes off the rails pretty fast.
Treated like a granter of wishes for those earning out of retelling the same tragedy, Marilyn looks like she's caged in different stages of trauma for us to stare at, instead of someone we’ve finally allowed to rest in peace.
