Imagine sailing around the world alone. For eight months you are surrounded by churning seas and wide open skies. All the responsibilities of navigation, repair and survival rest on your shoulders twenty-four hours a day. Does this sound fun, or crazy? To some people like the Around Alone sailors, it sounds downright irresistible. Throughout recorded history, more people have traveled into space than have sailed around the world alone, the ultimate test of seamanship and courage. BORN TO THE WIND captures the human drama of sixteen sailors as they set sail from Charleston, South Carolina in the Around Alone 1998-99 Race.
Overall, Lee Cronin’s The Mummy is plagued by numerous flaws, both from a quality and from a diversity standpoint. The film relies on gore and loud sounds to drown out its flat script, flatter dialogue, and one-dimensional characters.
Dramatic Horror!!! Wait, what?? Did you say "dramatic horror"?? IS there such a thing?? I mean, TRULY. Well, if San Francisco-based, Pakistani-born independent filmmaker Dr. Hassan Zee and this film critic have anything to say about it, there IS such a beast as experienced through the director's newest feature film set to officially debut October 4th in the City by the Bay. Folks, indie film will always be a bastion of experimentation and originality, and this film for me fits that bill.
Love Hard is a Christmas romcom about two people who fall in love while pretending to date. It’s a romantic and fun watch. If you can forget the catfishing.
The Cycle refuses to lean into the same old, same old monster-movie tropes and builds the entire premise around the intellect and the history of a capable, smart female protagonist.
'Ms. Davis’ Close Friend' will make you think about the meaning of death and what it means to be alive, and if there’s really a race to be run with one's inevitable demise.
That gut-wrenching feeling you have while watching it is okay but needed, and you, the viewer, will be okay.
