Gus Van Sant's Constant Thematic and Cinematic Elements
The differences in these films could not be more blatant, and yet Gus Van Sant has found a way to portray the same messages and use the same techniques in each.

All hell is breaking loose in Bridgetown. The drug mafia terrorizes the city. Murders are committed on every street corner. The police are powerless. The mayor calls in the military to help. The Drug Enforcement Unit sends its best agent, Dolph Reiner a former Vietnam fighter. He and his well-trained special unit declare war on the ruthless drug lords and their terror. Their message to the dealers is simple: they will inflict pain until they are on their knees begging for mercy....

Unfortunately, People We Meet on Vacation didn’t hold up quite as well as I’d hoped.
An impressive narrative structure, a perfect use of the continuous shot technique, and great interpretations make "Boiling Point" one of the best films of 2021.
Overall, Matthias & Maxime doesn't reinvent this romantic concept. But it also doesn't need to. Dolan weaves a story of love, friendship, and life that is both realistic and bittersweet. The film is nuanced and sensual in a way we don't get to see often with LGBTQ characters. It's a film that we can celebrate.
"Godzilla vs. Kong" is all style and very little substance. It's also the most fun I've had in months.
