Willy Wonka (2023)

Wonka is a 2023 movie that serves as the title character's origin story. Inspired by the classic tale Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, this film takes viewers on a time-travel journey that shows how the classic legend began. There are lots of references to the original tale, which viewers easily notice.

From humble beginnings, Willy Wonka was a magician and inventor who started selling chocolate in a small candy store. Before there was Charlie, there was the guy behind the chocolate factory. Viewers see the title character when he was younger. In addition, there is strong Black representation, as Calah Lane, a Black actress, plays Noodle, the supporting role.

Willy Wonka wears his signature hat and carries his signature cane, just like in the original classic. The Oompa Loompas return. This movie is considered to be popular among viewers, as there are original songs that emphasize the origin story of the title character. Wonka is played by Timothee Chalamet, an American and French actor.

This film is categorized as a fantasy and musical film because viewers see many fantastical elements in many scenes, especially in the film's musical numbers. The setting of Wonka takes place in Europe, though the title character's magic alters the landscape.

Building his chocolate factory is the main conflict of Wonka. Viewers see how hard it is for the title character to build his candy factory when he has very little money to start with at the beginning of the film. Eventually, with the help of Noodle and the Oompa Loompas, the title character can successfully create and sell his chocolates legally, though he does run into trouble. Scrubitt and Bleacher are the main antagonists of the film, as they attempt to sabotage Wonka's chocolate shop. He, however, outsmarts the two antagonists with his signature ingredients.

Viewers are amazed to see how the title character transforms from a complete nobody into a famous person and founder of his chocolate factory. The epilogue of the film reveals a golden paper with a message, which iconically resembles a golden ticket in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The epilogue of Wonka slowly ties in with the beginning of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
