Sayuri has been dating Iwasaki for five years. It has been six months since he started looking for a job after the company he worked for went bankrupt. She has not been able to find a new job, and recently they have been quarreling over a few things. Then one day, Shizue, the remarried woman of Sayuri's father Kazuhiro, comes to Sayuri's house. That night, Sayuri, unable to bear the sound of Kazuhiro and Shizue's fierce desire for each other, leaves her room and runs into Shizue's stepson, Reiji, in the kitchen. He told her about Shizue's past, in which she had been with many men. He told her that Reiji was not Shizue's real child. Kazuhiro was away from home on a business trip the next day.
As this critic continues to look back at some of this Summer's films I have taken in, I would be remiss if I didn't mention one of the most overall unsettling trends in Hollywood over the last several years.....sequels, reboots, and remakes. Look, I am all for seeing more than one film for certain originals that made a splash, ie: "Jurassic Park", "Pirates of the Caribbean", "Transformers", etc.
Peppered with whimsical humor, heartbreaking realizations, and heartwarming discoveries, The Incomer is surprisingly endearing through and through.
The height of subversive horror cinema is Jennifer’s Body. No, I will never budge on that. Yes, Cabin in The Woods is funny, Scream is very well made, and the Scary Movie franchise is …. there. But nothing is quite as satisfying as watching the teenage succubus that is Jennifer Check rip apart boys. In the post #metoo era where the industry is far from changed, watching revenge flicks like these is probably one of the most cathartic experiences due to the slow-moving progress being made.
Striving for validation. Let’s be frank….we ALL want to be successful. Whatever we put our efforts into, ideally it is to make it culminate in the best possible results across the board, especially when it comes to what career path we are pursuing. We WANT to excel, to shine, to advance, to be acknowledged. AND…let’s hope that we also wish to better everyone around us to boot. However, what occurs when those whom we initially put our trust in suddenly become a burden instead of a boon? Do we falter under the weight of rejection? Or STAND UP for WHO WE ARE?
That gut-wrenching feeling you have while watching it is okay but needed, and you, the viewer, will be okay.
It is as bad as your remember, and you are fortunate if you've never watched it. Keep it that way!
