'Happening' Explores the Horrors of Abortions Being Illegalized
I have no idea how getting an abortion is still not a basic right at this point, but that means the fight is far from over. So, films like Happening are ever-relevant.

Before moving, Marina and her mother spend their last day at their house. In the midst of packing and moving boxes, the house, still full of the remains of a shared life, becomes a space where the past is constantly present and accentuates the communication problems between them. Years of mourning the death of Marina’s sister, Anara, have created a fracture between mother and daughter. A non-verbalized mourning that each one carries in a different way: the mother through silence and avoidance; Marina from the need to put it into words. Throughout the day, Marina tries to reconnect with her mother and insists on returning to the forest that surrounds the house, a space closely linked to memories of her sister. The mother avoids the proposal and tries to focus on moving. When Marina finds an old dress from Anara, the past becomes more tangible than ever and forces them to face what they have been avoiding for years.
