Ferhan Şensoy says the following about The Threepenny Opera: "When updating Brecht's (The Threepenny Opera) 67 years later, I sometimes approach John Gay's "The Beggar's Opera." For example, in the original work performed 267 years ago, Mack the Knife was a folk hero, while in Brecht's version, he is an ordinary thief. Our own Mahmut is a Kemalist gangster. But we don't stray too far from Brecht; in our play, too, the wrong characters say the right things. And yet The Threepenny Opera is not an opera. It is not a Brecht 'work.' It is an epic farce as close to Brecht's Kel Hasan Efendi as it is to his own work."
The story is a moving sentiment of letting go of the past and putting trust and faith into others. Though you come into this world alone, surrounding yourself with others that support you and want to help is the greatest gift life could ever give.
The second season arrives over three years after its first. While late on arrival, most audience members will be happy.
Netflix’s Shadow and Bone has a complicated relationship with race. It has a diverse cast, but not without its problems. Based on Leigh Bardugo’s two book series, the show features characters from the Shadow and Bone trilogy, which is very straight and white, and the Six of Crows duology, which is much more diverse. When bringing together a cast and writing about these characters, the team behind the show expanded upon some of the representation missing from the first trilogy, then seemed to take away representation from the duology. Shadow and Bone seems to play a bit of a push and pull game when it comes to portraying diversity onscreen.
Eventually, “Hobbs and Shaw” introduces us to a Samoan community. Clearly, Johnson’s Samoan roots are on display. Quite frankly, I found this section of the film very intriguing. The “Fast and Furious” franchise has a solid track record in the diversity department
