Leila, a young woman in contemporary Morocco who is caught between her own desires and the societal and familial expectations that bind her. As she navigates the pressures of tradition and personal identity, Leila faces a heartbreaking choice that forces her to confront the deep conflicts within herself.
Seeing that the film was essentially his first big, mainstream feature, and with garnering a leading role — portraying the revolutionary ball-player Jackie Robinson — Boseman, without question, delivered a performance that is still so incredibly moving, respectful, genuine, and true to the core of his obviously sincere, artistic heart; and with that, it is indeed so saddening to see him pass.
What seems like such a simple story of survival is so much more than that—it’s a story of family, and of war, and of destruction. It’s painful to watch, but not in a bad way. It makes its audience reflect on their own actions, and in how they are complicit in the sufferings of others as the adults in this film are. Grave of the Fireflies does not hold back from being heartbreaking, and it shouldn’t. It tells a message that needs to be heard decades after the war, and a story that cannot be forgotten by history.
Slytherin is painted negatively for the traits the members of this house embody. Although Slytherin students are ambitious, cunning, and determined, they are more.
As a frequent “the book was better” extoller, this movie was well worth the watch.
