"Pretty": Metecan Duren's Ambitious Horror Debut Shows Promise
New horror film "Pretty" is good to look at thanks to 19-year-old director Metecan Duren.

Little girl Nada is attending an international exhibition of children’s drawings. She is looking at the drawings of her peers from Japan, England, Finland, the USSR, Italy and Yugoslavia. The drawings made by children from different countries, including a drawing by little Mirko form Yugoslavia, reflect a vision of the world shared by all children regardless of origin.

Though an 80’s film, She’s Gotta Have It is surprisingly progressive with its themes of female sexuality, although at some points in the film it is handled clumsily. Overall Nola is an incredibly compelling character especially for modern women, as we as a society acknowledge female sensuality more and more without the negative stigma.
