The siblings Sieglinde and Siegmund von Arnstatt are inseparable. Their arrogant manner is particularly felt by Sieglinde's fiancé, Lieutenant Justus von Beckerath. Siegmund jealously watches over his sister, with whom he falls into a frenzy of emotion during a performance of Richard Wagner's opera "Die Walküre." “Candyman ain't a 'he.’ Candyman is the whole damn hive." Candyman represents all Black victims of white supremacy, and this art form narratively conveys it in a succinct, adulatory way, the history of which is rare to find.
Though often underwhelming as a whole, Nevertheless is worth the watch because of the relationship between Sol and Jiwan. It is a stunning, refreshing take on the friends to lovers trope that LGBTQ media has been missing.
Ultimately, Wicked is a story about the cost of being othered, the pain of being misnamed, and the quiet revolution of standing in your truth.
