The myths of the priapic Black stud and the White woman beauty ideal collide in this rhythmically constructed work about identity and desire. Skinned explores the specific historic, psychological and social implications of relationships between Black men and White women. Using their bodies as a point of juncture, the artists blatantly situate the viewer as voyeur while identifying this physical realm as the arena within which cultural communities and individuals oppose interracial relationships. Ultimately, the multiplicity of images and voices calls into question the validity of definitive truths and the authoritative voice.
A refreshing twist is that all the kids’ powers are…kind of useless. There’s a kid who can only move in slow motion, a kid who has every power in the world but can only use them randomly, and our main character Missy who has no powers at all. The thesis of the film seems to be that it doesn’t matter what kind of powers you have, its the way you use them, which is good for the warm and fuzzies.
A fun-loving story focused on surviving middle school and tailor-made for its target audience. "The Diary of a Wimpy Kid" follows the paradox of finding true friendship and securing popularity no matter what it takes.
'Playing with Fire' was clearly a film made for a kid or tween-ish audience. Keeping that in mind, I thought 'Playing with Fire' was alright, though it did portray some harmful stereotypes.
The legacy of this movie starts off the film series with a bang of magic, plot twists, and battles.
'Jungle Cruise' is fun if you can ignore the racism of the ride it’s based on and the film’s bland, stereotypical characters.
