Lun decides to get back in touch with his former high school flame Siu-Yuet , but finds out that she is dead and that he unintentionally caused her suicide. Siu-Yuet's ghost appears demanding retribution, and Lun and his friends are forced to carry out a number of tasks to placate the girl's vengeful spirit. A ghostly romance with several twists follows.

Severance is about breaking down facades and confronting old models that were once frameworks of our lives. The somewhat subtle message to me is it’s never too late to fall in love, no matter your insecurities.
I can say without question, that this is the first movie I’ve ever seen where art imitates life so much that I could 100% identify with it on a personal level. The predominately Black cast of characters are people with hopes, dreams, fears, and ambitions.

Netflix's Afterlife of the Party might fall into the rom-com genre, but it's much more about grief, strong female friendships, and platonic love than it is about romance.
