A dark period in the winter of the mid 1900's. The scene is set by a gentle hum of jazz and the tapping of raindrops. The story follows the protagonist, a rogue private investigator, who feels like working this job has him stuck in a never-ending loop. His loneliness has led to delusion and violence. Every ring of his phone, he's in high hopes that he will pick it up to be his 'lover' - instead, it's just another case for him to solve. Scenes become faster and clips start to repeat, the man is under crushing stress.
When I first saw the pilot for The Owl House, I knew instantly that it was special. It had an immense charm to not only its characters, but its story as well! It quickly became my sister and I’s go to Disney show to watch as a family, and we couldn’t wait to see what would happen next.
The plot could’ve really been interesting if the elements of lycanthropy was integrated with perhaps the struggle of identity of being LGBTQ+. It's an experience for so many that as they’re starting to realizing their true selves, they feel like a monster, especially if they come from unsupportive homes or communities. Instead, the horror and transformation elements seem thrown in without contemplation of how this could deepen the narrative.
