António Palolo's first films playfully recombine body parts cut out from magazines that Palolo placed in motion with geometrical shapes. These first engagements with the moving image are in a dialogue with Pop, Dada and Surrealism. Recurrent circles appear throughout the films, echoing Marcel Duchamp’s Anemic Cinema (1926).
Overall, Cruella stands above the other Disney retellings. Its dark and bold, and that is exactly what these retellings should be. Emma Stone continues to prove she's one of the finest young actresses working today, and Emma Thompson gives one of the best villain performances in the last decade. The fashion is stunning, the dogs are adorable, and the story is wildly vibrant and original. It's classic movie fun, and it shouldn't be overlooked.
We are incredibly blessed that this movie is available for us to see, and we should take advantage of the opportunity we’ve been given.
I can say without question, that this is the first movie I’ve ever seen where art imitates life so much that I could 100% identify with it on a personal level. The predominately Black cast of characters are people with hopes, dreams, fears, and ambitions.
