This film is primarily a smell. An indescribable scent that marks you forever. The smell of war, of death. The smell of impossible peace. Constructed as an investigation, the film is a double testimony, that of the executioner and that of the victim, presenting the turning point in the history of a country, a region, several peoples that are at the center of all conflicts in the Middle East. The film tells the story of 5 days in September 1982, which itself sums up a century of conflict. In one place, Beirut. An investigation based on the testimonies of all the protagonists, victims, executioners, accomplices and witnesses.
Two Summers ago, on May 27th, 2022, the theatrical cinematic realms were re-awakened from their post-COVID dormant state of being by a little film titled "Top Gun: Maverick". It re-introduced us to the absolute elation of seeing not only a highly anticipated (and, granted, 36 years in the making!) sequel, but the return of the quintessential Summer blockbuster to witness on the BIG screen again.
From the cinematography to the script to the acting, Sorry, Baby is undoubtedly one of the best films of the year.
A direct fall into the white savior narrative
The character of Mulan is one of Disney’s best heroines. She’s brave, kicks butt, and has a kill count. What other Disney character has killed hundreds of Huns by crushing them with an avalanche? No one.
A recent look at gender and racial diversity in film shows some signs of progress. However, white men still make up the vast majority of actors and directors in top-grossing films.
