A few episodes in, I realized the most prominent theme of In The Long Run wasn't culture, race or even finding independence--but the idea of belonging.

Jonathan and Julia are a husband and wife who are facing economic problems and business bankruptcy. Jonathan's house was confiscated by the bank, they were forced to move from his house to the Flamboyan Apartment, inherited from Jonathan's late father, Jonathan and his family lived on the 4th floor which was empty and only lived in by Oma Lie, an old grandmother of Chinese descent who was still Jonathan's relative. Laura, Jonathan's eldest daughter, feels something strange since living on the 4th floor. Something strange also happens to Citra, Laura's sister. Citra often has a strange attitude, she often throws tantrums and wants to harm Laura. On the 4th floor many residents died horribly. Laura continues to experience mysterious terrors that threaten the lives of her family.
