Ryan Coogler's Sinners Turns Horror into History
Set against the backdrop of the Jim Crow era, the film offers layered representation.
La mia Camera
“La mia Camera” means my room, a balcony with curtains, (and my film camera). The main characters are the wind and its dancing playmate, the curtain. The wind always needs a partner, otherwise it cannot appear. On this hot summer day he shows his exuberant, wanton, but also thoughtful, contemplative nature. Sometimes, when you're alone, everything seems animated."(Friedl vom Gröller)

‘She-Ra and the Princesses of Power’, a Worthwhile Watch to Celebrate Pride Month with the Whole Family!
An aspect of She-Ra that I find refreshing is even though a large portion of the cast is on the LGBTQ+ Spectrum, being gay is never mentioned. While this might initially sound like a negative thing, in the show’s land of Etheria being on the gay spectrum is shown to be so common and normalized that straight isn’t the default. As much as there is to appreciate about narratives revolving around the obstacles that may come from being non-heteronormative, it’s nice to get immersed in a world where no one bats an eye at all to any sort of differing identity.
Weapons: Smartly Entertaining, Deeply Disturbing
At 2:17 a.m., every child in a third-grade class wakes up, leaves their home, and disappears into the darkness—except one. The next day, teacher Justine Gandy discovers that Alex Lily is the only student left, while the rest have vanished without a trace. Did Justine have something to do with it, or is a far more sinister force stalking the town, targeting not just children, but anyone in its path?
The “Face” of Politics
As I typed this, Chris Evans was being “cancelled” on Twitter. I did a little research on this since I always thought Chris Evans was well-received. It turns out the backlash is because of a white savior movie he made called Red Sea Diving Resort.

Sersi in Eternals is a New Look at the Female Gaze
Having Sersi be the central force in Eternals is unprecedented in its viewpoint and focus, from demonstrating a gentle type of leadership, to being overlooked in a group setting but succeeding in the goal at hand anyways, to having romantic options, to strength and integrity, and majority screen time - for a group that's given less screentime than aliens.
