A twisted 16mm Gen X comedy disguised as a 1970s drive-in flick, KILL THE MOONLIGHT is the story of Chance, a fish hatchery worker, toxic waste cleaner, and aspiring race car driver whose goal in life is to fix up his Camaro and follow his dreams of championship glory. As the film unfolds, Chance unravels in strange ways after getting contaminated by toxic waste.
I highly recommend Dark Waters. It’s a highly engrossing picture, which lends itself to cautionary storytelling. The dark information continually grows, inspiring change and accountability altogether. Overall, Haynes’ picture will not be known for its inclusiveness--but it will be known for being a fantastic, engrossing film.
Knives Out doesn’t just defy the whodunit narrative, it uses the weaknesses to its advantage. It’s well aware of the genre’s faults and tropes
Twisting what seems to be obvious setups and frameworks is what sets the story structure of Squid Game apart. I appreciate that this narrative is complex but not complicated; an easy enough plot to wrap your head around while still treating the audience like an equal participant in this social commentary
