Let’s Hope Disney’s “Hercules” Remake isn’t Another “Aladdin”
Here's what Disney got wrong with "Aladdin" and how it can avoid those pitfalls with "Hercules."

The recently orphaned Enriqueta has to work to earn a living; She finds a job with the widower Julio Mancera, for whom she works as governess for her little daughter. After a while, the two fall in love and get married. But then, Julio's cousin Eva returns from Europe and tries to separate the couple. She is almost successful, but her plans are thwarted at a party she throws for Julio and his friends, where she is surprised by Julio, Enriqueta, and the other guests in a compromising situation with Julio's best friend, Mauricio.

The film seems like an extreme interpretation of the conspiracy theorists that exist in real life. And then, there’s the twist.
What seems like such a simple story of survival is so much more than that—it’s a story of family, and of war, and of destruction. It’s painful to watch, but not in a bad way. It makes its audience reflect on their own actions, and in how they are complicit in the sufferings of others as the adults in this film are. Grave of the Fireflies does not hold back from being heartbreaking, and it shouldn’t. It tells a message that needs to be heard decades after the war, and a story that cannot be forgotten by history.
