Mean Girls is a 2024 coming-of-age movie based on the Broadway stage musical of the same name. It is part of the same teen franchise and shares its name. The slogan for this new adaptation is "Plastic is Forever," and it celebrates the 20th anniversary of the 2004 teen comedy film.
Viewers may recognize Renee Rapp from Mean Girls on Broadway, where she plays the role of Regina George, the main antagonist. Regina George is a popular icon, considered the most powerful mean girl at North Shore High School. The Burn Book symbolizes gossip, rumors, and the power of the queen bee, encapsulating every teenage girl's nightmare.
In contrast to the cast of the original Mean Girls movie, the musical film adaptation boasts a diverse ensemble, featuring Black and Latina representation. Notably, some main characters are portrayed by new actors, except for Tina Fey and Tim Meadows, who reprise their roles as Ms. Norbury and Principal Duvall. Many actors have completely different appearances from the original 2004 movie cast. For instance, Cady Heron had red hair in the 2004 film, while she sports dirty blonde hair in the 2024 adaptation.
