Trans Allegories in Film: 'Nimona' (2023)
Animation as a medium of storytelling can be thought to be open to all ages and as I hope my reading will reveal, 'Nimona' could be interpreted as a transgender story.

While Mr. Oulard is philandering with a hitchhiker, his black mistress and a disco pick-up, his villa on Ibiza is invaded by three thugs who force themselves on his wife and his wife’s friend, and then also his daughter and his maid. After making them perform various sex acts with each other and the thugs, they take them aboard a yacht where Captain Finch (who has previously helped Olinka after her bicycle got a puncture and had sex with her on his motor bike) is asleep. More perversions follow.

“Candyman ain't a 'he.’ Candyman is the whole damn hive." Candyman represents all Black victims of white supremacy, and this art form narratively conveys it in a succinct, adulatory way, the history of which is rare to find.
This coming-of-age musical features a strong representation of LGBTQ+ individuals coming-of-age.
Overall, Altered Carbon: Resleeved is pretty “meh.” It’s cool and all that it takes a different approach from the TV show to make it animated rather than live action, but it doesn’t help that the animation looks like something from a video game.
If you were to watch it on streaming when you have nothing to do, it’s still probably a giant waste of time, but you could do far worse. Paying $18 for a movie ticket and who knows how much for concessions turns this from an exercise in boredom to an exercise in frustration.
