On the sun-scorched coast of central Vietnam, Cát, an innocent young woman, lives with her sister Mai in a modest house near a seaside resort. Deeply attached to nature, Cát is determined to protect the sand-dwelling lizards threatened by human activity. Her beliefs bring her into conflict with Tuyết, an ambitious resort owner who plans to modernize the area by constructing a pier on the land occupied by the sisters' home. As Tuyết resorts to increasingly ruthless tactics to acquire their property, Cát finds friendship in Nam while struggling to preserve the fragile natural world she loves. The escalating conflict exposes the destructive consequences of greed and the clash between commercial development and environmental preservation.

Y tu Mamá También: A Profound Exploration of Mexican Society and Self-Discovery

Years before Mexican director, Alfonso Cuaron, was winning Academy Awards for movies like Gravity (2013) and Roma(2018), he directed a small, intimate film about two best friends who decide to embark on an improvised road trip to spend time with an older, attractive woman who miraculously agrees to go with them. Y tu Mamá También is a deep journey into the raw sexuality and friendship of the young protagonists, as well as a subtle social and political commentary on Mexico at the time.

Escape White Suburbia in "The Gates"

The Gates, John Burr’s new thriller film, is a disturbingly realistic portrayal of three Black twenty-somethings - Derek (Mason Gooding), Kevin (Algee Smith), and Tyon (Keith Powers), as they accidentally take a wrong turn into a gated community that’s more like a modern-day sundown town. The three friends witness a variety of crimes in their new surroundings, including an attempted homicide and an attempted rape. As they attempt to alert the authorities and do the right thing, they are thwarted at every turn by the worst horror stories of American conservatism - racist white suburbanites, reckless gun violence, corrupt police, religious mania, and a megalomaniacal pastor.
